On April 4th, the AAP issues guidance on infants born to mothers with suspected or confirmed COVID-19

These APP published  precautions are for birth attendants, rooming-in, breastfeeding, testing, neonatal intensive care, visitation and hospital discharge.

Practical findings in the field (US) that we are seeing:

  • Hospitals are being separated for Health moms vs. Covid-19 mothers.  Breast pumps are being dedicated to each isolation room / mother to decrease the chance of cross contamination.
  • Hospitals are discharging moms with vaginal deliveries at 24Hr after birth and C/S deliveries at 48Hr
